This Mike Bassett clip works so well with Gareth Southgate’s England it’s uncanny – and very funny

Don’t want to make you feel old or anything but it’s 23 years since Mike Bassett: England Manager took us behind the scenes of a brave new dawn for the national football team.

But it turns out despite Jude Bellingham not being born when it came out, it’s uncannily relevant to the situation Gareth Southgate (and England fans) find themselves at the Euros.

With the odd tweak, obviously. And it’s clever and very funny.

Bravo.

And of it’s time, and every year since, and every year before.

Genuinely one of my favourite scenes in any film, it’s only gotten funnier and more prescient in the Twitter era https://t.co/bRTHtNBy2A
