One-trick pony Nigel Farage calls for a referendum on leaving the ECHR – 18 votes of no confidence

We’re all well aware of Nigel Farage‘s recent trip to the US to support his ‘good friend’ Donald Trump, during which he didn’t get to see his ‘good friend’ Donald Trump.

It seems as though his head (as well as his heart) was still in America on Monday when Keir Starmer stood up in the House of Commons to make it absolutely clear that the UK will not be leaving the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), which it helped draft.

Keir Starmer:

"Let me be clear. There is no need to withdraw from the European Convention on Human Rights. That is not consistent with the values of that blood bond. And so we won't withdraw. Not now. Not ever." pic.twitter.com/HXGApSf7F9

Just one day later, Farage made his maiden speech, and – surprise, surprise – he used it to call for a referendum on leaving the ECHR.

It’s sad when a politician clings to their one idea, even after it’s turned out to be a spectacularly bad one.

Only a day after Labour explicitly ruled out leaving it

Pointless right wing garbage used when he could have highlighted more pressing issues in his constituency – if he’d bother to visit it

If someone wants to remove human rights protections it's because they want to abuse your human rights. Yes, yours. #ECHR
