24 completely unsurprised responses to Nigel Farage ghosting Clacton and hotfooting it to the US to ‘support’ Donald Trump

By now, you’ll be aware that a dramatic near miss has resulted in Donald Trump sustaining a slight injury to his ear, one of the rally crowd losing his life, and two others sustaining injuries described as ‘critical’.

Understandably, the news cycle has been dominated by updates into the investigation into the shooting, now confirmed to have been carried out by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was himself fatally shot by Secret Service officers.

The attempt on the former President’s life has been condemned by those on all areas of the political spectrum. This was the message from Joe Biden.

Biden: There is no place in America for this kind of violence. It's sick. It's sick. It is one of the reasons we have to unite this country. We cannot allow for this to be happening. We cannot be like this. We cannot condone this. pic.twitter.com/Hgce6vs0ni

Despite vowing to boycott the BBC, Nigel Farage, who had been planning to head to the US to support the Trump 2024 campaign before winning his Clacton seat, spoke to Laura Kuenssberg about the shocking incident.

Nigel Farage, how's that #BBC boycott going?

Or is the Laura Kuenssberg show an exception pic.twitter.com/5RJ9VnQmU7

He told GB News that he intended to head to the US to support the man he describes as his friend.

I will fly out to America this week to support my friend Donald Trump at the RNC.

We all have a duty to support and defend democracy. pic.twitter.com/KoDqszd2Jj

He laid out his intentions in the Telegraph (where else?), blaming the Left for stoking division.

I’m flying to America to support Trump in this desperate hour
He’s had a narrow miss. It’s a miracle. I implore the Left to think very carefully about how they seek to play politics

People could very much be forgiven for not being surprised at this turn of events.
