17 favourite reactions to Suella Braverman’s announcement that she won’t run for the Tory leadership job

Suella Braverman has ruled herself out of the Tory leadership race.

Whether it was simply a matter of not being able to persuade ten other MPs to back her, or because she didn’t want to be the leader who got stuck in opposition with no hope of ever running the country, we’ll probably never know.

She put her own spin on it via a column in the Telegraph.

I’ve been branded mad, bad and dangerous by my own party – so I will not lead it
Our failures on migration, taxes and trans ideology cost us at the election but my fellow party members refuse to face up to them

She shared the link on Twitter/X with a pledge to support the new leader from the back benches …which seems highly unlikely.

With thanks to the 1000s of members, ex-Tory voters & MPs who supported me, I will not run for the leadership of the Conservative Party.

I wish all the Candidates the best & will support the new leader from the Back Benches for a Conservative revival.

ITV’s Paul Brand picked up on one of her claims from the article – that she had been some sort of voice crying out in the wilderness.

“I cannot run because I cannot say what people want to hear.”

Suella Braverman has ruled herself out of the race for the Tory leadership, despite claiming to have the 10 nominations required.

She sounds pretty fuming about it. https://t.co/KErkwCeqP3

He shared this quote.

“There is, for good or for ill, no point in someone like me running to lead the Tory Party when most of the MPs disagree with my diagnosis and prescription. The traumatised party does not want to hear these things said out loud. Instead, platitudes about “unity” are fashionable. That’s all fine but it’s not honest.”

There was an outpouring of grief at the devastating news. Nah. There was a whole heap of pisstaking.

NEW! The Sun reports Suella Braverman will not run in the Tory leadership race claiming the Party isn’t willing to confront the ‘woke virus’.

In other words, she’s too extreme for the most extremist Tory Party we’ve ever seen ..

I’m disappointed Suella Braverman isn’t running for Tory leader. Apparently she had enough MPs supporting her bid but you don’t know them because they all go to a different school.
