John Oliver’s rousing take on the general election is essential but absolutely NSFW viewing

InFor the latest episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, the host – John Oliver, in case that wasn’t clear – turned his ascerbic wit to the issue of the UK election.

He’s British, so it came with a side of personal bile, not to mention a hefty nod to both the film Independence Day and Rishi Sunak‘s soggy election announcement.

It’s NSFW. No, really – it’s absolutely not safe for work. It comes straight from the heart, and it seems that John Oliver’s heart knows a metric fuckton (actual unit) of swear words.

You have been warned.

‘On July 4th, Britain has a chance to wash itself clean of 14 miserable years of Conservative rule, and it’s a chance it simply must take.

If I may quote Bill Pullman yelling about aliens, if we do this the 4th of July will no longer be known as just an American holiday, but also as the day when Britain looked at the Conservatives – who’ve driven the entire country into a ditch – and said in one voice, loud and clear …

“Fuck off into the Sun, you cunts, fuckpigs and weirdos. You tossers, wankers, dick-splashes and cockwombles.”

If Britain stands together this July the 4th, it will finally celebrate its Independence Day.’

The full episode won’t be shown in the UK before the election, due to rules about electoral fairness, but people really appreciated seeing the snippet.
